Grab your food processor, some raw nuts, cocoa powder and just a few other ingredients! In this article I show you how to make homemade Nutella (hazelnut spread), entirely vegan! It’s easy and a delicious guilt-free chocolate spread or dip.
As a child I always loved Nutella. As an adult, I learned not to because it’s badddd. It’s filled with refined sugar and dairy. The healthy part of Nutella (hazelnuts, cocao) is a fraction of the list of ingredients. The good news is: Nutella is easy to make yourself. Below is a recipe to show you how to make homemade Nutella, with only five ingredients, and entirely vegan!
Recipe: Homemade Nutella
Roast the hazelnuts in a frying pan (no oil, medium heat) until they’re slightly brown.
Put the hazelnuts in a food processor and blend until smooth. Note: you can also buy hazelnut powder; this is easier if you’re food processor isn’t that strong. I like a little bite, but for the real Nutella you need to blend the nuts until there are no chunks left.
Put the blended hazelnuts in a bowl and add half the cocoa powder and the soy milk/water.
Add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and the vanilla essence.
With a mixer (or by hand) mix until the mixture is smooth. Slowly add the rest of the ingredients and keep mixing. You can also do this in a food processor, but mine isn’t big enough…
Your Nutella is done once the mixture is smooth. Make sure you taste it, you may want to add more maple syrup. You can save the Nutella in a glass jar in the fridge. It’s delicious and you can enjoy it all day long without feeling guilty. If you're looking for things to eat with Nutella, I suggest whole-wheat bread, toast, banana or bread sticks.
