This really is the best recipe I’ve made all year. It’s vegan, so simple and so delicious! It’s basically like eating a banana, just a little bit tastier and more fun.
You don’t need an ice cream maker for this recipe, just a (hand) blender. This recipe is for vegan banana ice cream, with the addition of cocoa powder which means it becomes chocolate ice cream! It really is the best chocolate ice cream recipe I’ve made. This ice cream is dairy free and you can make it sugar free by adding unsweetened cacao nibs instead of chopped dark chocolate. I don’t mind a little sugar, especially if the chocolate’s dark enough, so this is the kind I use:
As long as the chocolate contains at least 70% cacao, it’s fine. Dark chocolate has many health benefits ¹, ². If you prefer vegan banana ice cream, just leave the cacao powder out!

Recipe: Healthy chocolate ice cream
Put the semi-frozen chopped banana in a bowl or small pan with a splash of soy or coconut milk and blend the mixture. I use a hand blender (is that the word?) for this recipe as the chunks of frozen banana don’t blend well in my blender.
While blending, add the cocoa powder and the vanilla essence.
When the mixture is smooth, add the chopped dark chocolate and mix well with a spoon.
Put the mixture in a container and back in the freezer for a bit so it can harden.
Healthy chocolate ice cream which you can eat all day long (great for breakfast too). If you decide to eat it the next day it will become very hard and it’s best to defrost it in the microwave for about 10-20 seconds (or longer, depending on how much you made). Love this ice cream; it always takes care of my sweet cravings. Like I said: the best chocolate ice cream recipe and it's healthy too!
