Remember when I compiled a list of 30 things that scare me? And how I wrote that those are exactly the things I need to do more often? Well – one of those things is happening this weekend. I’m terrified but also extremely excited.
Not going to keep you in suspense any longer!
Number four on my list was:
4. Take a vacation by myself to a place I’ve never been
Well: I am glad to say it’s happening! Finally! So where am I going? I really wanted to vsit Scotland for my first solo-trip, but it turned out to be very expensive (especially Edinburgh). I saw a few affordable hotel rooms that were about 8 square metres and some of them were window-less. I don’t need extreme luxury, but I do like my home-away-from-home’s to be as good as, or better than, my own place. Edinburgh wasn’t going to happen without spending a fortune, so I decided to go somewhere else. To…drumroll…
I grew up in (northern) Italy and I have never been to Rome. I know, it’s insane. About time I went there! I have no idea what to expect, but I booked an Airbnb apartment in a great location so hopefully I’ll feel at home there. I’ll be taking lots of photos and filming my trip, so I’ll be sharing everything with you. I’m flying out today and I’ll be back on Monday so lots of time to blog, take photos and make videos. So that’s what I’ll be doing. I’ll also be eating lots of good Italian food and take tours of the city. I’m so excited, but also a little scared. I’m going all alone (that’s the point) and have no idea what I’m doing or what to expect.
Why this trip?
I just want to add why I’m taking this trip. It’s much easier to stay home and spend another weekend doing everything I always do. Work a little, blog a little, maybe go out to dinner or see a movie. It’s pretty much the same every weekend. When I came home from my trip to Sweden I promised myself this would be the year I’d travel more. I want to see the world and I want to find myself. And this is how I’m going to do it.
I don’t mind being by myself, but spending a day alone at home is very different from spending a couple of days alone in a foreign country. I’ll have to figure out where to go, what to eat, what to do, who to talk to. It’ll be scary, but also hugely rewarding. What I look forward to most is being able to make every decisions for myself. I won’t have to think about anyone but me and that sounds pretty cool.
I hope you all have a great weekend, wherever you are. I’m off to Rome and I’ll be sure to share as much of my trip as possible. Stay tuned!
