Personal blog

New beginnings

Hi & welcome to my new website! This is my first post on For the past few weeks I have been (secretly) building and designing this website. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I have another blog,, which is the first blog I ever had. Through building that blog I learned everything I know now about blogging, but also about what my goals are for a blog. Those goals have changed and I feel Healthynotskinny’s time has come to an end.

Over a year and a half ago I started a blog, I felt a little stuck and was unsure about what I wanted to do with my life. In 2013 I started my PhD in communication science, which I really enjoyed, but I was yearning for a creative outlet. When I was younger I wrote a lot, designed magazines, took photos and even videos of myself talking to the camera (I still own those ‘vlogs’ and find them a little painful to watch). When I went to university I got ‘serious’ and let all of that go. My only focus was getting my degree, a good job and becoming financially independent. Such a fun goal!

Fast-forward eight years and I was hired for an interesting and fun PhD project, right after graduating from university with a research master’s degree in communication science. Everything seemed to go very smoothly career-wise. I felt very proud and accomplished that I managed to find a paid position straight after graduation and I was so excited for this next step in my life.

Fast-forward another two years. I was halfway through my PhD and although it was going well and I was enjoying it very much, I felt a strong yearning to do something else, something more creative. So in the summer of 2015 I started my first blog and I was SO excited. Healthynotskinny was born because I wanted to share my tips on living a healthy life, without counting calories or measuring food portions. I wanted to share my delicious vegan recipes and discourage everyone from eating meat and dairy. Of course, there were many other bloggers out there doing the same thing. At the time, I didn’t care.

Time for a change

After a year or so I started feeling a little stuck again. I still believed in my ‘recipes’ for healthy living, but I also felt there was so much more I wanted to blog about. I had always loved writing and sharing my thoughts and feelings and I wasn’t doing that. So at the start of this year I started sharing new content on the blog, which was very well received. But something still didn’t feel right.

Through my blogging journey I had learned a few things. First, I loved blogging and the online blogging community. I loved the people I met, the events I visited and the feedback I was getting. But I also realized that I had changed quite a lot. I no longer wanted to write just health-related stuff. My blogposts were about many different topics now, but they had one thing in common: they were all about things I believed in, loved, admired, things that inspired me, interested me – they were all about me and my life. That’s how my idea for my own website under my own name was born.

New beginnings:

And here we are, almost at the end of 2016 and the beginning of my new website This really feels like the right move and it also feels like a weight has been lifted. Over the next few weeks I will slowly start moving most of my content from to My content won’t change much – although it will probably be a little more personal. My website, my perspective, my stories, my life! I will still share vegan recipes, stories from my life, my own experiences and view on life. I will also start experimenting more with photography and video editing – something I’m not all too familiar with yet.

I hope you’ll love as much as I do. Designing this website has been a real joy for me and it feels more right than anything has in the past year. Healthynotskinny has been a really fun ride and I’ve learned a lot, but it’s time to move on. I hope you’ll keep following me and reading my blogposts – I will keep posting a new blogpost every weekday as I was doing before. Thank you for reading and enjoy!
