Last week I posted a quote on Instagram which read “work hard to make yourself believe you deserve it”. Lately I’ve come to realize how much truth there is to this saying and why you definitely shouldn’t sit and wait for good things to happen.
I’m a firm believer in the law of attraction – that like attracts like – and that in order to attract good things to you, you need to think positive. Although I do believe this, it doesn’t mean that you can just sit on the couch and wait for good things to happen. Why not? Because you in your mind, heart and soul needs to believe you deserve those good things. And how do you make yourself believe you deserve it if you don’t put in the work? Exactly.
To be honest, when I first heard about the law of attraction, I thought: great! Now all I have to do is control my thoughts, and everything I want will be attracted to me. If I want something, all I have to do is direct all my thoughts and energy towards getting it and it will happen. It’s as simple as that. Although this may technically be true according to the law of attraction, it’s very difficult to make yourself believe great things are going to happen to you, if you don’t really feel like it’s a possibility for you. You may sabotage yourself by thinking thoughts like “why me”, “I’m not smart enough”, or “good things never happen to me”. I believe it’s crucial to eliminate those thoughts because they can stand in the way of you getting everything you desire.
The problem is your own perception. If, for instance, you want to earn a lot of money, you may secretly feel that money is unattainable for you. It may not be a lot to “the universe”, but it is to you. Your own perception of what you want (= a lot of money) is standing in the way of you getting it. And that’s my whole point: how do you eliminate this ‘negative’ perception? Work, work, work!
“Decide what you want. Believe you can have it. Believe you deserve it and believe it’s possible for you” – Jack Canfield
I’ve noticed that it can take some time for your mind to catch up with your heart. And your mind plays a crucial role in you getting what you want. A lot of people are, unwillingly and unknowingly, self-sabotaging their dreams this way. Especially because they feel they are “thinking good thoughts” so good things must start happening to them. But the law of attraction clearly states that in order to get what you want you need to believe it’s possible for you. And this part is often overlooked. This believing-part is essential and in order to get there, you need to put in the work.
Dream, believe, achieve
Those two aspects: time and work are going to get your mind on the same page as your heart. If, for example, you want to achieve something (write a bestseller, lose weight, write a hit song) but you have made no physical attempts to get there, you might believe you don’t really deserve it. If, on the other hand, you spend all your (free) time working out, eating healthily or writing manuscripts or lyrics, your mind will slowly start believing it’s possible for you to achieve what it is you want. And the more time passes and the more work you put in, the more you will believe your dream is within reach. So much so, that when you actually get what you want, it might not feel all that special anymore. You will expect it. And that’s the level your mind needs to be at. Dream, believe, achieve: find a dream, believe you deserve it (put in the work!) and you will achieve it, no matter what it is you want. And remember to keep going: never, ever give up. It will happen – all it takes is time!
