You know how people like to throw advice in your face, whether you’ve asked for it or not, and how most of the time you nod and forget what they said? That’s often the case with me anyway. I’m stubborn and I don’t like to take other people’s advice. But sometimes something sticks and someone gets in a little. Here are 25 things people have told me that I’ve always remembered (although I don’t always remember who said it).
- It just has to ‘fit’ – my mother, on relationships
- At least you feel alive – a mechanic when my car broke down suddenly
- Always do the things that scare you – unknown
- I’d rather jump in a pool than take a picture of it – unknown
- Drinking wine is fine, as long as you drink the equal amount of water – a friend
- Never fish for compliments – my father
- Never do it for the money. You will never be successful that way – my boyfriend
- The most beautiful thing a woman can be is confident – unknown
- Keep going – unknown
- Why the f*ck would you ever do anything you don’t enjoy – unknown
- If you didn’t gain it in a day, give yourself some time to lose it – a former colleague, about losing weight
- Your body is like a coat you wear here on earth and when you die, all you do is hang up your coat – my mother, right after my father died
- You should never feel like you will die if (s)he leaves you – a psychologist
- There is something attractive in the things you fear. You never fear the things you don’t care about – my therapist
- The more you do it, the better you get – my colleague, on teaching lectures
- Always be yourself and believe in yourself – a friend
- Do the things you want to do, not the things people expect of you – my boyfriend
- Never give a shit about anything – also my boyfriend
- Do what you want, but don’t hurt anyone – unknown
- If it doesn’t happen, it just wasn’t meant to be. Something better will come along – a friend
- Don’t forget about what you want most for what you want right now – my sister
- Never drink because you feel like you need to – a friend
- Always remember that your choices aren’t permanent. It’s okay to change your mind – unknown
- Lots of things that are healthy or good for you are also usually quite boring – unknown
- Do what you love is not always the best advice. Sometimes you just have to do stuff you hate to get somewhere great – me, because I’m awesome! And I really believe this.
So here it is: 25 x the best advice I was ever given. What is the best advice you ever got? Let me know in the comments!

March 6, 2017 at 10:47 pmMy favourite piece of wisdom is from my dad – “nothing is permanent”. I interpret it as – if you are having the worlds worst day, it shall pass and you start again tomorrow. If you are having the most glorious day, surrounded by love, then cherish every second and bank those moments because special moments are worth holding on to. They too pass.
